“I’m so scared. Please come and get me.” โ The voice of a five-year-old girl that became the voice of 17,000+ Palestinian children killed in Gaza.
Hind Rajab was a five-year-old Palestinian girl from Gaza City. Her name means “sword of justice” in Arabic โ a name that would tragically become a symbol of the world’s collective failure to protect the innocent.
On the morning of 29 January 2024, Hind was traveling with her family โ her uncle, his wife, and their four children โ in a car attempting to flee the fighting in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City. As they drove, the car came face to face with Israeli tanks. Gunfire erupted. Everyone in the car was shot.
Hind was the only survivor. She was five years old. Alone in the car with the bodies of her family, she called the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) emergency hotline. For over three hours, she pleaded with dispatchers to rescue her.
When an ambulance was finally dispatched, it was also fired upon. Both paramedics โ Yusuf Zeino and Ahmed al-Madhoun โ were killed. Hind’s body was not recovered until 12 days later, on 10 February 2024, when the Israeli military withdrew from the area. She was found in the car, next to her deceased family members.
“Come and get me. I’m so scared. Please come and get me.”

The vehicle was riddled with bullet holes from Israeli tank fire. Hind’s body was recovered 12 days after the attack, still inside the car with her deceased family members.
